The Shack by William Paul Young

The author of The Shack, William Paul Young, joined Steve Brown Etc. to talk about living in a jacked-up world full of pain and loss and…full of a God who loves us. I encourage everyone who would like to know more about this book to listen to this fun interview with Steve Brown.

I went to Walmart to purchase this book after seeing the author interviewed on James Robinson's television show. My wife and I loved this book, we are sharing it with many family and friends. If you do a Google search for this book you will find many in the Church who are very critical about this book. Most of these critical reviews I have read seem to take parts of the book out of context of this fictional story, however. I think Wayne Jacobsen has done a good job of answering the question, Is The Shack Heresy?

Visit TheShackBook.com for more on the book and visit WindRumors.com for more from Mr. Young.

to get an idea of how evasive Mr young can be when asked about the controversial theology of the book, listen to his other recent interview with Matt Slick
The Shack Book interview with Paul Young"

Mr. Slick seems to show some ignorance at the beginning of this interview in not understanding the fact that this story is fiction. Even after Mr. Young tries to explain it again and again. At the beginning of the interview Mr. Slick says that he likes the fact that the book brings God down to earth to make the relationship aspect more understandable. Then after speeding the first seven minutes of the interview figuring out that the book is fiction, he starts arguing against the fact the image of God was in the flesh in this "fictional" story. Mr. Slick read this "fictional" story looking for problems from day one, he stated that at the beginning of his interview, when he stated that he found it at an emergent church conference. I have a feeling that Mr. Slick scheduled this whole interview to try to attack both the book and the author. Mr. Slick is one of those Christians who have his entire understanding of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit through a lens of his theological teachings, and it sounds like those teachings are of the Calvinistic flavor (That's a whole other discussion of bad interpretations and heresy). He uses many theological vocabulary words that are not found in the Scriptures, but in stead were taught to him by someone else. His intentions for having this interview was to add another check mark to his "heresy hunter" score card. Why are most Calvinists also heresy hunters? At least they don't still burn people at the stake like their hero, John Calvin did. If you want to hear Mr. Slick's intentions for this interview just fast forward to about the 35 minute mark. This was just another chance for him to try to spread his Calvinistic mis-interpretations of the Scriptures.

I don't think Mr. you was evasive as the previous poster, I think he handled Mr. Slick's attacks very well. I listened to Mr. Slicks interview, and still stand by my original opinion of this book. I think it's a great book, and I think God is using this book to start breaking free from religious thinking and bondage to start pursuing a relationship with Him.
